Sporting beats FC Porto and ends the regular phase with victories :: zerozero.pt

Words are scarce to describe what Sporting did in the first phase of the Placard Handebol 1 Championship. It is true that it was already known that the lions would finish the regular phase of the competition in first place, but the truth is that the team led by Ricardo Costmade a point of finishing on a high note and, by beating FC Porto by 35-32, managed to complete this first stage with only triumphs. That’s right, dear reader, they were 22 wins in 22 rounds.

In a game played at Pavilhão João Rocha, the Leonine team showed what they were soon opening up to, as the first goal of the match was scored by Nathan Suarez. Although FC Porto managed to react, dragons were winning by three goals (3-6) -, Sporting reacted promptly and went into the break already with a considerable advantage (18-15).

In the complementary stage, the lions they gave further unequivocal proof of their maturity and, even with the blue and whites taking the lead shortly after the match resumed (24-25), Alvalade’s team came out strong again and won by 35 -32.

On an individual level, Kiko Costa took on a prominent role, as he scored 13 goals, the most in the match. On the other side, note the display of David Fernándeza Spanish full-back who stood out with eight accurate shots.

With this result, the Sporting finished the regular phase with 66 points. FC Porto, with one game less, currently has 54 points and can match, at best, Benfica’s score.
