This Sunday, Benfica beat GDESSA Barreiro, 61-42, and won the Portuguese women’s basketball Cup, at the Palácio dos Desportos, in Torres Novas. The Eagles started competently and the two teams played the first quarter closely, with the Red team leading the first 10 minutes, 17-14. In the second period, Benfica extended their lead and went to the locker room with a 9-point lead (35-26). At the beginning of the second half, the Reds controlled the game and increased their lead once again, ending the 3rd quarter with an 11-point lead over the Barreiro team (47-36). In the last period, Benfica put an end to any doubts, winning the match with a final score of 61-42.

Letícia Soares was the MVP: the Benfica player stood out with 11 points, 15 rebounds and 1 assist. On the GDESSA side, it was Krystal Freeman who had the best performance, with 13 points, 6 rebounds and 1 steal.

Remember that the two teams competed in the final of the Portuguese Cup, after the eagles eliminated Quinta dos Lombos the day before, by 66-52, and GDESSA defeated União Sportiva, by 60-55.

Benfica, who won the Cup in 2021 against Vitória de Guimarães and in 2022 against GDESSA, thus revalidates the title they had lost last year to Quinta dos Lombos.
