The 2023/2024 season is one to forget. Bayern München returned from the break for international team commitments against Borussia Dortmund and the new defeat (0-2) in the Bundesliga accentuated the crisis that the Munich sides are experiencing.
The eighth defeat of the season in all competitions meant one of the worst records in recent years. Since 2014/2015, in fact, there have not been so many negative outcomes in a season. That year, with Pep Guardiola in charge of the team, the Bavarians became champions and recorded three defeats (nine in total) already… with that distinction in their pocket.
Ten years later, Thomas Tuchel’s men are second in the league, in the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League, but were eliminated in the DFB Pokal by 1. FC Saarbrücken and lost the German Super Cup against RB Leipzig.
The last one with Klopp
Furthermore, there is another statistic to highlight that illustrates this season. The defeat against one of their biggest rivals put an end to an unbeaten streak that had lasted since 2013/2014, at the time with Jurgen Klopp in charge of Borussia.
Since then, Bayern had won every game (eight), but goals from Karim Adeyemi and Julian Ryerson took all three points to Dortmund. Bayer Leverkusen are getting closer and closer to becoming champions and only have three victories left.
