André Villas-Boas considered yesterday, in Ponta Delgada, in an information session for Azorean fans of FC Porto, that the team’s season in the League “is weak” and that the current classification, third place, “is not acceptable”. Furthermore, he revealed that he will announce, on Saturday, the name of the sports director for his candidacy, highlighting the launch of women’s senior football and grassroots futsal. But he rules out relaunching cycling “any time soon”.

After the defeat against Estoril, the candidate for president of FC Porto analyzed the team’s career and referees. “It is not always justified with these errors [dos árbitros] everything we are doing from a sporting point of view. It’s a weak season for FC Porto. These results cost the fans, because we are not used to being at that level. It’s hard for me to see an FC Porto that is permanently harmed in such an obvious way. We have an obligation to regain our title, to create competitive teams, to be close to the institutions that govern Portuguese football, to clearly define our position, to demonstrate the strength of FC Porto, but also to be competitive and to be champions. . This one-off difference is not acceptable,” he said.

The candidate criticized the lack of credibility of Portuguese football, following the Dragons’ game with Estoril. For André Villas-Boas “the errors are glaring and increasingly evident” and he calls for a more energetic position from those responsible for the blue and white.

“This implies an FC Porto that is active with the institutions, that knows how to establish its position and that knows how to clearly demonstrate its dissatisfaction and, unfortunately, it seems that this is not the case. All of this follows a communication strategy, but also institutional weight. FC Porto has to be close to the institutions of the League, the Federation, the European Club Association and has to be in permanent communication with the institutions that govern Portuguese football and this does not seem to be the case”, he emphasized.

André Villas-Boas announced that on Saturday he will reveal the club’s future Sports Director. This figure will form the link between all the club’s modalities with the Board and administration of SAD, and there is the ambition of, next season – and if elected –, launching the senior women’s football team and futsal, from the under-11 level onwards.
