Manchester City coach defends Haaland over former player’s comments
Pep Guardiola described Erling Haaland as the “best striker in the world” after Roy Keane compared Manchester City’s Norwegian to a League Two player, which corresponds to the fourth tier in England.
The former Manchester United captain made the observation on Sky Sports after the 0-0 draw between City and Arsenal on Sunday.
Keane acknowledged that Haaland has a class of his own in front of goal, but that in other aspects of the game he is “almost like a League Two player”.
Words from Roy Keane, former Manchester United player, who left harsh criticism of the Norwegian striker’s recent performances
«I don’t agree with him, absolutely not at all, Erling is the best striker in the world and he helped us achieve what we achieved last season. He [Keane] is that he is a fourth-tier coach”, he said.
“I’m surprised that this comes from former players. With journalists I can understand, because they were never on the field, but with former players it’s always a surprise when they are critical… It seems that memory… [e faz um gesto com a mão] disappears quickly», he also highlighted.
When asked if he saw a commentator role for himself in the future, Guardiola added: “I don’t know what will happen, but I’m not the type of person who will criticize colleagues when I retire.”
