Images of Oscar Pistorius walking calmly, with a smile on his lips, through the streets of Pretoria, South Africa, infuriated friends of Reeva Steenkamp, the ex-girlfriend of the former Paralympic athlete, shot dead in the couple’s home on the day of Saint Valentine, in 2013. Pistorius, aged 37, was found guilty of murder, but is on parole, having served seven of the 13 years he was sentenced to. He has been staying in a luxurious mansion owned by his uncle, but in recent days he has been seen walking around, wearing sunglasses and in a relaxed manner, through the streets, which has caused outrage among Reeva Steenkamp’s friends. Tania Koen, one of Reeva’s friends, lamented the fate of the model’s mother, whose husband “died of sadness” last year. “I feel sorry for June, who is serving a life sentence. She will never see Reeva’s smile again. Never again!” said Tania, who is also the family’s lawyer quoted by the ‘Daily Mail’.
Another friend, who did not want to be identified, was more blunt: “It’s really disturbing to see Pistorius smiling like that, as if he had no worries. If I could, I’d wipe that smile off his face! I don’t know how he can sleep at night after what he did.”
