An old-fashioned rout and the title so close.
PSV beat Heerenveen 8-0 away from home and are virtually champions of the Netherlands. The Eindhoven team reached 84 points, nine points ahead of Feyenoord, who later beat Go Ahead Eagles (3-1), with three rounds remaining until the end of the Eredivisie.
Peter Bosz’s team is virtually champion of the Netherlands as it has a much higher goal difference (+86) than second-placed Feyenoord (+56). For PSV not to celebrate, Eindhoven’s team would need to lose the remaining three games and Arne Slot’s team, in addition to winning their games, would have to overcome the goal difference.
Eredivisie standings
PSV didn’t give a chance and humiliated Heerenveen. Til opened the scoring after seven minutes and after 11 minutes, Tillman had already scored twice.
Now, Til didn’t want to be left behind and repeated what his colleague had done, reaching 4-0.
The worst news for the home team is that there was still an hour before the match ended. Insatiable, the Eredivisie leaders continued to accelerate and made it 5-0 before the break through Veerman.
At the start of the second half, Bakayoko scored a great goal to make it 6-0 before Luuk de Jong joined the party and scored the seventh of the afternoon.
Patrick van Aanholt came off the bench in the 62nd minute just in time to put his name on the scorer’s list and fix the final result. PSV is thus very close to winning the 25th Dutch championship in its history.
After PSV’s defeat, Feyenoord went to Go Ahead Eagles to win 3-1.
An own goal by Jeffrey de Lange moved the score in the 25th minute and Luka Ivanusec extended the lead in the 33rd.
Just before the break, Edvardsen (45m) reduced the score for the hosts.
In the second half, Ayase Ueda fixed the result at 3-1, in the 69th minute.
