Roger Schmidt’s already delicate situation as coach of Benfica gained another dimension after the Reds allowed their rival Sporting to celebrate the title of national champion on Sunday, thanks to the 2-0 defeat in Famalicão.
According to the national sports press, doubts regarding the German’s permanence in the technical command of the Reds are increasing and are dividing opinions within the Eagles’ structure.
The newspaper ‘A Bola’ states that the departure of Schmidt, who has a contract with Benfica until 2026, is unlikely… but not impossible, despite there being those in SAD incarnate who defend the immediate departure of the German coach, an opinion there is very defined by the overwhelming majority of fans, who do not identify with the coach’s personality and working methods.
