Jô, now in Amazonas, framed by the alimony
Jô, a Brazilian international now playing for Serie B side Amazonas, was arrested on Monday night, in Campinas, due to failure to pay alimony.
Amazonas went to the Ponte Preta stadium, to play matchday 3 of the Brazilian second division, when the police waited for the team bus to arrive to serve the arrest warrant against the striker. Jô was immediately taken to Campinas prison, according to information from Globoesportes.
The Brazilian media outlet also reports that two Amazonas directors accompanied Jô to the police station and only left the place when the player’s lawyer arrived.
«There was an arrest warrant issued in a city in Bahia, for a reasonably small debt. According to the lawyer handling the case, the debt has been paid. Jô will go to the Institute of Legal Medicine and then go to prison. Tomorrow [terça-feira] this debt, for any doubt, will be paid, we hope that he will be released», informed the player’s lawyer, who was appointed by Amazonas.
The lawyer also told Ge Globo that the process was under judicial secrecy because it involved a minor. The Brazilian newspaper reports that the player has eight children, six of whom are out of wedlock.
The 37-year-old forward, who has played for Corinthians, Manchester City, Everton, Atlético Mineiro, and even became a Brazilian international, was going to start in the match against Ponte Preta, but was replaced by William Barbio.
