Yellow wall flies to Wembley! :: zerozero.pt

What suffering! Paris SG did everything they could to turn the tie around, hitting the post/bar five times, but always running into the Yellow Wall. Borussia Dortmund were lethal, winning 0-1 and confirming their passage to the Champions League final!

After 1-0 In the first leg, everything was decided in Paris, where PSG hosted Borussia Dortmund, with both teams looking for the desired Champions League final. On the Parisian side, coach Luis Enrique started the Portuguese Nuno Mendes, Vitinha and Gonçalo Ramos, while on the German side Edin Terzic once again called up his usual starters to the game.

Effective wall

As expected from the result obtained in the 1st leg, PSG entered the field with the aim of taking control of the game and possession of the ball, with the consent of the German side. Borussia Dortmund filled its central corridor well and gave the Gauls initiative on the wings, where there were great players, such as Dembélé, Hakimi, Nuno Mendes and the inevitable Mbappé.

Despite this, the truth is that the speed and quality of this quartet of French arrows was, almost always, somewhat inconsequential, largely due to the great mutual assistance and defensive organization of a Borussia Dortmund that clearly brought the lesson studied. Luis Enrique’s men were feeling the lack of connection in the game through the central corridor and Vitinha had to wander from his position to bring about this imbalance. Furthermore, the Portuguese was the PSG player with the most daring shot. Kobel was fine.

On the other side, however, the Germans were still bold, especially in the transition. They were waiting for the French to make a mistake, they played with the psychological side and dismantled the opponent’s pressure well and several times they managed to bet on the speed of Adeyemi, who even had the best scoring opportunity in the 1st half (Donnarumma did well). On the other side, on the right, Sancho also insisted on one-on-one against Nuno Mendes, a duel that had already created sparks in the 1st leg, and they were sharing the spotlight, unlike the 1st leg. round.

What suffering!

Paris SG knew what they needed to do to change the game and started much more dynamic in the 2nd half, hitting the post, following a corner, by Emery in the 47th minute, but Borussia Dortmund were lethal and just three minutes later scored, also from a corner, by the central Hummels. The Germans increased their advantage in the tie and changed the game even more.

With this extended advantage, Edin Terzic’s men retreated further and further and the coach also strengthened his team for that low block, even assuming a 5x4x1. The initiative therefore belonged entirely to Paris SG, who now had much more space to have the ball in the opponent’s half, but less and less space to have it in the final third and in the German area.

What we saw from then on was authentic despair personified in missed chances for the Parisians, who throughout the 2nd half hit the posts and goal bar defended by Kobel four more times (!!!) – once by Nuno Mendes and another by Vitinha, the best on the field on the French side. When it wasn’t the posts, it was the Swiss goalkeeper who filled the goal and it seemed like one of those games where nothing would be enough for Paris SG to score. Borussia Dortmund ended up proving that they really are a Yellow Wall, they won 0-1 and are in the Champions League final, waiting for Bayern or Real.
