O David Neres’ future is not fully assured at Benfica. The Brazilian international has gained Roger Schmidt’s trust in recent months, becoming part of the Eagles’ starting eleven more regularly, but his stay at Luz for the new season is not a given as he is a player with a lot of market.
According to information collected by Sport at the MinuteBenfica has not received, to date, any survey or more informal contact with a view to signing David Neres, but the opening of the market in a few weeks, in the summer, should motivate new attacks by the 27-year-old Canarian winger.
With five goals and 10 assists this season, in a total of 35 games played for Benfica, Neres is one of the players who could be traded by the Eagles’ management if it is necessary to make a more significant financial contribution.
Furthermore, Zenit already tried to take David Neres last summer, but Rui Costa remained firm in his decision to keep the player signed from Shakhtar in the summer of 2022, in exchange for 15 million euros.
Season may be over
The Brazilian winger is out for Roger Schmidt for the game against Arouca, scheduled for Sunday (6pm), due to a muscle injury suffered against Famalicão last Sunday.
The injury is not serious, but it requires a period of rest that could prevent the Brazilian from participating in the visit to Rio Ave, scheduled for the following weekend, as the Eagles bid farewell to this season.
Contract for another three years
David Neres has a contract with Benfica until June 2027 and has a release clause of 100 million euros, an amount that leaves the Eagles well positioned in any negotiation.
