In the latter case, given the “heaviness” of processing, it is necessary to resort to cloud services – with the consequent waiting time for the Upload, download and server time, which may vary depending on whether they are more or less busy. A method that will continue to be used in the future for demanding services.

“We have a lot of AI processing in smartphone, and a lot happens in the cloud. I believe that, as these systems become more efficient, it will be possible for them to be done on the device, and we will try to bring them to the device, but the more advanced things will continue to be done in the cloud”, says Specht in response to a question from DN . “We see advantages in these two methods and should continue to use both.”

The AI algorithms on the phone run on the Tensor processor, which is developed by Google itself, giving priority to this type of softwareeven – judging by the benchmarks of specialty – at the expense of pure processing speed. Something to continue: “Tensor is for us, for the image, a key component to create the entire camera system. The ability to take great photos isn’t just a matter of megapixels or the fastest processor. It is a combination of hardware, software incredible and chips fantastic. We are really committed to continuing to push these three areas to the maximum and Tensor is a big part of that.”

This is to make more and more of these devices “photographic cameras with a telephone”, in the words of Michael Specht. To the Photos in this article, all taken by himself with a Pixel 8, demonstrate this.
