A series of official documents leaked in 2023 indicated that Microsoft would launch two updates for the Xbox Series X and S in 2024. Now, the website eXputer has revealed alleged images that show the new version of the Xbox Series of disks. However, the internal specifications would be basically the same.
The published images are of low quality and are at odds with what had been previously leaked. However, the development of new products can undergo drastic changes. Still, what was previously supposed to be a cylindrical-shaped console now looks like it will be a product very similar to the original, with the exception of the lack of a disc player.
The input mapping itself, logo and rear connections appear unchanged. The lack of a disc player could help lower the price of the new Xbox Series X, in addition to theoretically reducing internal heating as there is more space for air circulation. Speaking of which, the site suggests that Microsoft has inserted an improved heatsink, just like the PS5 Slim.
Lower price than original
Despite the images, it is necessary to consider this leak with great caution, as this is not a recurring source in the industry. In fact, recent rumors indicated that Microsoft had canceled these updates and brought forward the launch of the next generation of Xbox to 2026.

With so much disparity in information, it is difficult to understand what the strategy of the division headed by Phil Spencer will be for the future, but if it is real, this new Xbox Series X should only be a minimal update to the company’s portfolio. On the other hand, rival Sony is working on a PlayStation 5 Pro that is more advanced than the base version later this year, although many developers do not understand its need.
Finally, the leak points out that the Xbox Series X update should cost less than US$499.99 (around R$2,500 in direct conversion), the price of the original console.
