A Microsoft shared the financial results for the first quarter of 2024, a period that was marked above all by good results in the area of ’cloud’ and Artificial Intelligence. However, not everything is ‘roses’ in the world of Redmond technology.

In the case of the Surface product line, this division’s revenue fell by 17% and, according to Microsoft’s CFO, Amy Hood, the trend is expected to continue in the second quarter of 2024.

Even though revenue from Xbox content and services increased by 62% thanks to the acquisition of Activision Blizzard and its franchises, revenue from Xbox consoles fell by 31% this quarter.

Microsoft itself admits that this drop in revenue is related to “a lower volume of consoles sold”, with the decision to release previously exclusive Xbox games on rival consoles being a clear sign of the need to increase revenue in the video games division.
