During Microsoft’s earnings reveal, Satya Nadella, the CEO of the Redmond giant, commented on the possible future of Xbox.

In a question and answer session, Satya Nadella stated that Microsoft is “committed to finding new players regardless of their platforms“, implying that more games first-party will be released on other platforms. This statement can also be reinforced with another speech from Nadella, who praised the fact that seven of the twenty-five best-selling games on the PlayStation Store were from Xbox.

In another part of his speech, Nadella stated that Xbox saw “new records” of hours spent on streaming of games, console usage time and active users on the Xbox network. It is worth remembering that at the beginning of 2024, Phil Spencer, CEO of Microsoft Gaming, confirmed the arrival of Hi-Fi Rush, Sea of Thieves, Pentiment and Grounded on rival consoles as part of a “new market strategy“.

However, Spencer had assured that only the four games would be released on other platforms, while much of the Xbox Game Studios catalog would remain exclusive to consoles and PCs. Xbox’s “new strategy” is dividing opinions among the community, as one side defends the launch on other platforms while the other side argues that this could be the end of the Xbox brand.

We’re committed to meeting gamers where they are, bringing great games to more people on more devices. We set records in Q3 for game streaming hours, console usage, and monthly active devices.

We’re finally expanding our games to new platforms, bringing four of our fan favorites to Nintendo Switch and Sony PlayStation for the first time. In fact, earlier this month we had 7 games in the PlayStation Store top 25, more than any other publisher.
