Apple could surprise the public when announcing the iPad Pro with M4 chipset. The information was revealed by analyst Mark Gurman this weekend.
Citing as sources people who work in the Cupertino company’s supply chain, Gurman says that this move is being made so that the tablet has features based on Artificial Intelligence.
With this, the iPad Pro will be the first device with an AI-enabled M4 chip, something somewhat unprecedented when we take into account Apple’s traditional market strategy.
For Gurman, as much as it doesn’t make sense to debut the M4 chip now, Apple needs some attraction for its tablets. Furthermore, having the new SoC now means the company will only need to focus on software at June’s WWDC conference.
By unveiling the new iPad Pro M4 ahead of its Worldwide Developers Conference in June, Apple could lay out its AI chip strategy without distraction.
Of course, the new iPad will not have AI features at launch, but the iPadOS update could put it on par with the new iPhones and Macs, which will be launched towards the end of the year.
So at WWDC, Apple can focus on how the M4 chip and new iPad Pros will take advantage of the AI software and services arriving as part of iPadOS 18 later this year.
In other words, in practice, the company does not want to launch an outdated iPad. Therefore, bringing forward the launch of the M4 is the best strategy at the moment.
However, as Apple does not comment on this type of matter, we emphasize that everything should be considered as just another market rumor. In any case, the company’s next event is scheduled for May 7th.
