Helldivers 2 became an unexpected success for Sony Interactive Entertainment, one of the biggest of 2024 in the video game industry, but the period of grace ended in a nightmare, when the company dictated the obligation to link Steam and PlayStation Network accounts.

The company announced that it will not move forward with this decision, after fans expressed their discontent, something that included bombarding Helldivers 2 with negative reviews on Steam while the company did not change its mind.

As part of this show of disillusionment with Sony’s decision, thousands of players decided that bombing Helldivers 2 wasn’t enough, they started targeting Helldivers. Johann Pilestedt, creative director for both games, regretted the barrage of negative reviews for the first game, as collateral damage from the controversy, but understands who did it for the second game.

Pilestedt did not hide his frustration with the attack on the first Helldivers, something he expressed on the social network X, but before Sony announced the change of mind, it was a truly merciless attack.

Things got so tense that Sucker Punch even felt the need to warn that it is not necessary to link a PSN account to play Ghost of Tsushima singleplayer.
