Average chicken meat prices rose in February, compared to the first month of the year. According to the Center for Advanced Studies in Applied Economics (Cepea) at Esalq/USP, the boost came from the good pace of Brazilian exports, which contributed to reducing the domestic availability of the protein.

In the first 15 working days of the month, the daily average shipped was 20.7 thousand tons, a significant increase of 21.3% compared to January, according to data from the Foreign Trade Secretariat (Secex). There were 311 thousand tons of fresh chicken meat sent abroad, compared to 353.4 thousand tons in the entire month of February last year.

Domestic demand, on the other hand, was weaker over the last month, according to Cepea researchers.
