Who is the monster? Japanese drama premieres at Cine Teatro Ouro Verde

-

“Monster starts simple and ends transcendental”, assessed film critic Isabela Boscov about the Japanese drama that has accumulated awards, shaking hearts since its debut. The film crossed the oceans directly to the screens of Cine Teatro Ouro Verde, where it will be shown on March 4th and 6th, at 4pm and 7:30pm. Moviegoers will be able to be moved by a story as intimate and complicated as their own childhood.

Who is the monster? A single mother, a young teacher, two classmates. The peaceful routine in a suburban town in Japan is interrupted after a shocking fight between students. The versions of what happened mix and contradict each other, becoming a terrible scandal. A single mother defends her son from school violence, while a young teacher takes action against the bullying in the classroom. Two classmates disappear in the middle of a storm.

Kore-eda Hirokazu, director of the film, tells a simple story in a non-linear, distressing and human structure. With names like Sakura Ando, Soya Kurokawa, Eita Nagayama and Hinata Hiiragi, Monster won Best Screenplay and Queer Palm at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival, in addition to featuring a soundtrack by Oscar winner Ryuichi Sakamoto.
