Retired military police officer shoots app-based driver after traffic accident

A retired military police officer shot an app driver after a traffic accident between the two this Wednesday morning (13) in the Pitimbu neighborhood, in the South Zone of Natal. A security camera recorded the collision and crime (see video).

The retired military police officer – who was on a motorcycle hit by the driver – fled after the shooting, but ended up being detained hours later by the Military Police. A resident of the region wrote down the motorcycle’s license plate number and reported it to the authorities.

The shooting victim is 65 years old and, according to his family, was shot at least four times. He was admitted to the Monsenhor Walfredo Gurgel Hospital, in Natal. His health status was not reported.

The accident happened around 11am on Rua Lago da Pedra. The app driver was trying to make a U-turn on the street, when he hit the motorcycle on which the retired military police officer and a woman were riding, as a passenger. They both fell off the motorcycle.

Video from security cameras showed that a retired police officer got up and walked towards the app driver, who stopped and got out of the car to provide assistance. At this moment, the PM fired.

According to witnesses of the accident, There was no argument between the time of the collision and the shooting.

The Civil Police informed that the retired PM will be charged with the crime of attempted qualified homicide and receiving stolen goods, as the weapon he had with him – and which was seized – had been reported stolen.
