Leandro Boldriniconvicted of the death of his son, Bernardo, was selected for a place in the medical residency program of the Santa Maria University Hospital (HUSM), maintained by UFSM. The doctor was called by the selection process notice on Tuesday (12) and should confirm the vacancy by this Wednesday (13).
Boldrini, who is serving a semi-open sentence at the Santa Maria Regional Prison, signed up for the residency in trauma surgery. Despite the conviction, there is no legal restriction that prevents him from practicing medicine.
Boldrini’s lawyer, Ezequiel Vetoretti, told g1 that “the fact concerns the client’s personal matter.” The Regional Council of Medicine of RS (Cremers) preferred not to comment on the case. A RBS TV contacted HUSM, but did not receive a response until the most recent update of this report.
Until the most recent update of this report, there was no confirmation that Boldrini had signed up. The residency program activities begin on Friday (15).
In January, Boldrini had already tried to enter the medical residency in coloproctology, also at UFSM. The doctor came in fourth place – there was only one place up for grabs.
The MP denounced those investigated for quadruple homicide (scurvy and futile motives, use of poison and a resource that made the victim’s defense difficult), in addition to hiding a corpse.
The first jury in the Bernardo Case took place in March 2019. At the time, Leandro was convicted alongside the other three defendants – the boy’s stepmother, Graciele Ugulini; stepmother’s friend, Edelvânia Wirganovicz; and Edelvânia’s brother, Evandro Wirganovicz.
However, the father managed to have the first sentence annulled in December 2021. The judges of the Court of Justice considered that there was weapons disparity between the prosecution and defensewhich ended up benefiting Leandro.
The new jury was held in March 2023. This time, doctor Leandro Boldrini was sentenced to 31 years and eight months in prison for the crimes of quadruple homicide and for ideological falsehood. He was acquitted of the charge of hiding a corpse.
Stepmother Graciele Ugulini still serving time in closed regime at the Madre Pelletier Women’s State Prison, in Porto Alegre. She will only be entitled to the semi-open regime in 2026 and parole in 2035.
Evandro Wirganovicz served a sentence of nine and a half years in prison, which was terminated in January this year, and is loose.
