Man dies and 18 are detained after violent clash with police in the Metropolitan Region

On Wednesday night (13), a 30-year-old man died in an armed confrontation with the Military Brigade (BM) in São Leopoldo, in the metropolitan region of Porto Alegre. In the action, at least three people were shot and 18 individuals were detained. The approach took place around 8pm, on Rua Portão, close to Manacás, located between the Santos Dumont and Rio dos Sinos neighborhoods.

The action was triggered after BM received information about a criminal organization that was planning to murder a member of a rival group that same night.

According to the BM, the suspects opened fire on the police when they arrived in front of a residence. The agents responded to the attack, resulting in the death of one of the suspects. According to the BM, the victim was from Canoas and had no criminal record.

In the residence, the police located three 556 caliber rifles, eight pistols, a revolver, a large amount of ammunition and Molotov cocktails.

The Civil Police will investigate the case.
