Arsenal will be able to fill the away end of their stadium with their own supporters against Bayern Munich, after fans of the German side were banned from traveling to the away leg of the club’s Champions League quarter-final tie.

The Bundesliga champions yesterday accepted UEFA sanctions for their fans’ use of pyrotechnics in earlier matches in the tournament.

It means no Bayern fans will be allowed to travel to the first leg of their Champions League clash with Arsenal — and it is understood that the Premier League side will be permitted to sell tickets in their away end to their own supporters.

Bayern have been punished following the use of pyrotechnics by their supporters in Rome when they faced Lazio in their last-16 tie last month.

The Munich side have received a ban because they were initially handed a suspended sentence by UEFA for the use of pyrotechnics during a match at FC Copenhagen in the group stage.

“We have to accept this punishment,” Jan-Christian Dreesen, Bayern CEO, said. “Not only were pyrotechnics set off, but also fired deliberately onto the field, directly endangering bystanders. This was such an explicit violation of the conditions of probation that an appeal is unfortunately futile.”
