Scholz calls on Israel to “urgently and massively” improve aid distribution to Gaza

There is increasing pressure on Israel to end the invasion of Gaza. During a visit to the country this Sunday, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz called for an immediate ceasefire and the entry of more humanitarian aid.

Scholz argues that a land military offensive by the Israeli army in Rafah will only hinder peace in the Middle East and after a meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, he made a point of firming his position in favor of the two-state solution.

“Sustainable security will not come from higher walls and deeper ditches. It will come from a positive perspective for both people – Israelis and Palestinians”, he considers.

The Israeli Prime Minister maintains his intention to move forward with the offensive in Rafah, but expects the almost 1.5 million Palestinian refugees there to abandon the city located in the south of the Gaza Strip.

“We will allow them to leave, because the concern to reduce and minimize civilian casualties has guided us and will continue to guide us in the future”, he guarantees.

What is certain is that civilians continue to die in the region and the aid that arrives continues to be insufficient, warns Olaf Scholz.

“We cannot stand by and watch the Palestinians run the risk of starving to death, that is not what we stand for together”, laments the German Chancellor, calling on Israel to “urgently and massively” improve the distribution of aid.

Netanyahu claims that Hamas will be storing everything that is taken to Gaza, including food and medication, in the tunnels.
