Rio – A bus collided with a pole, in the early hours of Tuesday (19), in the Pechincha neighborhood, in the West Zone of Rio. The driver was injured in the accident. The region is without electricity.

The collision happened on Avenida Geremário Dantas, number 1,013. With the force of the impact, the front window of the bus broke and the wiring from the pole fell, getting entangled in the bus, which was without passengers.

The Fire Department was called at 3:40 am to the incident. The driver suffered minor injuries, was rescued and taken to Lourenço Jorge.

Due to the accident, the road had to be partially closed. So far, traffic is only open towards the Yellow Line. In the opposite direction, towards Taquara, it is being diverted to Estrada do Capenha. The collective has not yet been removed from the site. CET-Rio agents are on site assisting with traffic.

The region is also without electricity. Due to the downed wiring, Light agents were called and interrupted the power supply at the site to repair the pole.

Through a note, Rio Ônibus commented on what happened. “The bus involved in the incident was being parked in the garage, therefore, without passengers. The driver had minor injuries, but did not require hospitalization and is being monitored by the company, which is awaiting an expert examination to find out the cause of the accident.”
