Transdev drivers on strike from today to Thursday for salary increases – Society

Drivers from the road transport company Transdev are on strike from this Tuesday until next Thursday for salary increases, union leader José Manuel Silva explained to Lusa, who speaks of a membership of between 80% and 85%.

“The demands are decent salary increases for workers, who, at the moment, those on the Transdev contract are at the national minimum wage, 820 euros”, José Manuel Silva, coordinator of the Northern Urban Road Transport Union, told Lusa. (STRUN).

The union leader states that at Transdev “workers are standing still” as they do not accept lower increases than those practiced in member companies of the National Passenger Transport Association (Antrop), of 60 euros, excluding extras.

According to José Manuel Silva, at Transdev, which operates mainly in the North and Center of the country, there was only an increase of 15 euros, from 805 to 820 euros, something that “workers do not accept”.

“Furthermore, they came at the last minute to renegotiate with three more unions. They never wanted to negotiate with us”, further accuses the head of STRUN, who is still awaiting a counter-proposal from Transdev.

José Manuel Silva also accused the company of proposing increases of 50 euros to 870 euros, but exclusively for workers in the unions with whom it reached an agreement.

“The workers revolted even more, and the workers this Tuesday gave them the answer”, he stressed.

In response to Lusa, a company source revealed that STRUN “does not represent more than 10% of the workers” and that, of these, only “45% went on strike”, accusing the union of not having agreed to join the negotiating table.

The company did not confirm the accusation that workers not covered by the increases earn 820 euros, nor that it is negotiating increases (of 50 euros) below those agreed with the ANTROP companies (60 plus extras).

“This information is false,” the carrier’s source responded to Lusa.

Asked if it intended to meet with STRUN during the strike and reach an agreement, the source insisted that Transdev “always wanted to meet with all workers’ representatives, including STRUN”, calling for dialogue.

During the remaining days of the strike, workers will continue to gather in front of the Transdev facilities in Pinheiro, in Guimarães (Braga district).
