The Higher Institute of Social and Political Sciences is promoting this Friday, March 22nd, the Social Service and Sustainability Seminar, entitled “Millennium Development Goals. Alfredo Cunhal Sendin presents the integrative regeneration project of Herdade Freixo do Meio, as part of a round table that brings together MEPs Carlos Coelho and Carlos Zorrinho.

ISCSP – Higher Institute of Social and Political Sciences – opens its doors this Friday, March 22, to the theme of sustainability, with the purpose of reinforcing the interdisciplinary debate on sustainability and the millennium development goals, the so-called SDGs.

The Social Service and Sustainability Seminar, under the theme “Millennium Development Goals. The European Union’s response”, marks the launch of the Master of Service and Sustainability to begin in the next academic year 2024/2025 at this institution at the University of Lisbon.

Held during World Social Service Week, which had as its highlight World Social Service Day, on the 19th, which highlighted the need for innovative, community-oriented approaches and harmonious coexistence with nature, the seminar also has a third objective – debate the European Parliament Resolution of June 15, 2023, on the implementation and achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) (2023/2010(INI).

Ricardo Ramos Pinto, president of ISCSP, opens the work, which continues with a communication from Carla Pinto, coordinator of the Scientific and Pedagogical Coordination Unit for Social Service and Social Policy at ISCSP. A round table follows in the afternoon, which brings together MEPs Carlos Coelho, from the PSD, and Carlos Zorrinho, from the PS, the councilor of the Oeiras City Council responsible for Sustainable Development and Climate, Filipa Laborinho, and the engineer Alfredo Sendin, from Herdade Freixo do Meio, near Montemor-o-Novo, an integrative regeneration project that aims to demonstrate that it is possible for Man and Nature to work in partnership.

Carla Pinto, coordinator of the Social Service and Social Policy Unit at ISCP, highlights to JE the initiative’s contribution to the interdisciplinary debate on an issue of global dimension such as sustainability and to boosting the relationship between academia and European institutions and, in specifically, to the European Parliament, encouraging young students to get closer to this institution.
