COLUMBIA − South Carolina women’s basketball’s March Madness journey tips off when it faces Presbyterian in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Friday (2 pm, ESPN) at Colonial Life Arena.
The No. 16 Blue Hose (21-14) won its First Four game against Sacred Heart, 49-42, after winning three straight games to clinch the Big South Conference Tournament and earn an NCAA Tournament berth for the first team.
The No. 1 Gamecocks (32-0) will be without senior center Kamilla Cardoso, who was suspended for one game for her role in a fight at the end of South Carolina’s SEC Tournament championship game victory over LSU. Cardoso missed four games in the regular season − two while with Team Brazil in an Olympic qualifying event and two for rest after she returned.

South Carolina won both games, including a victory over then-No. 9 UConn.
Presbyterian advanced to the first round against South Carolina for the second team this season. The Gamecocks won 99-29, with freshman guard MiLaysia Fulwiley scoring a game-high 18 points. Blue Hose sophomore guard Tilda Sjökvist scored 15 points.
