In an interview with CARAS Brasil, Joaquim Lopes delivers discoveries with his first musical

Joaquim Lopes faces his first musical in Beetlejuice, which is showing at Teatro Liberdade, in São Paulo, until April 28th. In an interview with CARAS Brazilthe actor delivers discoveries on stage and talks about experiencing fatherhood inside and outside the theater: “My base“.

It was my first musical ever. Doing it in São Paulo is different, because it’s my homeland. I get to welcome my childhood friends and people I don’t always have much contact with there in Rio. It gave me an extra pleasure to be here, I’m very happy“, shares Joaquim Lopes, which debuted with the show in Rio de Janeiro in October 2023.

It’s an athlete’s life, there are many hours and you have to do aerobic physical preparation, in terms of breathing, so you can sing and give the text. There are three hours of shows, on the weekends there are two sessions, so on Sunday night I’m exhausted. It’s these challenges that make us feel those butterflies in our stomach.“, adds the actor of Beetlejuice about starring in the production.

In the plot, Joaquim Lopes plays the character Charles, father of the protagonist Lydia. With daughters twins in real life, he reflects on the impact of the role on the show: “Charles brings this more dramatic aspect to a play that is very funny. The trajectory is this dramatic arc of reunion with the daughter. His wife passes away and he has this whole journey of going to hell to, precisely, reconnect with Lydia. That was my biggest challenge, building a dramatic arc that is believable and moves people.“.
