The 1st Rui Costa Trophy – Grand Prix of Champions will liven up Póvoa de Varzim this weekend. The race for athletes in the cadet category will pay tribute to the Poveiro cyclist who was world champion in 2013.

The first stage takes place this Saturday afternoon, departing at 3pm on Avenida Vasco da Gama and arriving at the same location, after 73 km and passing through Esposende and Barcelos. The second stage is scheduled for Sunday morning and will be a 12 km time trial between the Laundos Industrial Zone and Monte de S. Félix. The third and final stage takes place on a circuit with 8 laps and 56 km in total in Aguçadoura, a village that saw Rui Costa grow up.

The race is organized by the Centro Desportivo e Cultural de Navais, in partnership with the City Council, the Porto Cycling Association and the Portuguese Cycling Federation. Young people from 20 teams participate in their quest to win the classifications of the four jerseys: yellow (general), blue (mountain), green (flying goals) and white (youth).
