The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) “unequivocally” condemned Friday’s attack on the outskirts of Moscow, Russia, claimed by the Islamic State (IS), an entity also described today by the White House as a “common terrorist enemy”.

“We unequivocally condemn the attacks against the audience at a concert in Moscow,” said a NATO spokeswoman, Farah Dakhlallah, in a post on the social network X (formerly Twitter).

“Nothing can justify an atrocious crime like this. Our sincere condolences to the victims and their families”, added the NATO spokesperson.

Also today, the White House called IS a “common terrorist enemy”.

“IS is a common terrorist enemy that must be defeated everywhere,” White House spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre said in a statement.

The US presidency “strongly condemns the heinous terrorist attack on Moscow”, which affected “innocent civilians”, he added.

At least 133 people died and more than 100 were injured in Friday’s attack on a concert hall on the outskirts of Moscow, Russia, which was claimed by IS.

IS stated that the attack is part of the “violent war” between the group and “countries that fight against Islam”.

The Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) reported the arrest of eleven individuals allegedly linked to the attack, including the four terrorists who directly carried out the attack.

Russian President Vladimir Putin today condemned what he called a “barbaric and bloody” terrorist act and called for revenge.

Although he did not speculate on the masterminds of the attack, he suggested that the four detainees were trying to cross the border into Ukraine, which, according to the Russian leader, tried to create a “window” to help them escape.

Ukrainian authorities have denied any involvement in the attack and a US intelligence source told the Associated Press that US agencies confirmed the group was responsible for the attack.

Several world leaders have condemned the attack and expressed solidarity with the victims and families.
