Three suspected perpetrators of the murder of councilwoman Marielle Franco and driver Anderson Gomes, in March 2018, were arrested this Sunday, 24th, during an operation by the Federal Police in conjunction with the Attorney General’s Office, from the Public Ministry of Rio de Janeiro. January.
Among those detained are the brothers Domingos Brazão, current advisor to the State Court of Auditors, and Chiquinho Brazão, federal deputy from Rio de Janeiro, as well as Rivaldo Barbosa, former head of Rio’s Civil Police.
In total, 12 search and seizure warrants are being executed in Rio de Janeiro, authorized by Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the Federal Supreme Court (STF).
According to the PF, the operation targets the intellectual authors of the homicide crimes, according to the investigation. The crimes of criminal organization and obstruction of justice are also investigated.
The operation comes in line with the approval of the plea bargain of former military police officer Ronnie Lessa by the Federal Supreme Court (STF). Arrested since 2019 on charges of being one of the perpetrators of the crime, Lessa pointed out who the masterminds were. Investigators are still trying to define the motivation for the crime.
