Rivaldo Barbosa would have given approval for Marielle’s murder and guaranteed impunity, says TV

The former head of the Civil Police of Rio de Janeiro, Rivaldo Barbosa, arrested today by the Federal Police in Rio de Janeiro suspected of participating in the murder of Marielle Franco and Anderson Gomes, would have an even greater role in the crime.

According to information from reporter Bruno Tavares, from Globo, the former head of Rio’s Civil Police would have given approval for Marielle’s murder and guaranteed impunity for those behind the crime. The information is in Ronnie Lessa’s plea bargainaccording to the reporter’s sources.

The information was released on Globonews this Sunday morning by reporter Daniela Lima, during coverage of the Federal Police operation that arrested the crime suspects.

Daniela also checked with other sources in the Federal Police, who confirmed the presence of information in Ronnie Lessa’s statement and also in other points of the investigation.

Marinete da Silva, Marielle Franco’s mother, participated in the interview on GloboNews and commented: “If I think I have the right to approve a crime like this, of a defenseless woman, like my daughter’s death, it’s saying that we were on a path no turning back”.

Marcelo Freixo, who participated in the same interview and had already expressed surprise at the information, reaffirmed the impact of the speech: “I am very impacted by this news. We already knew there was someone powerful. Of course there is a mastermind,” he said. “However, more than protecting the principal is being an accomplice to premeditation. It’s very serious, it’s very serious, it’s humanly depressing. This goes beyond the limit of what is expected of any institution, of human beings, of people”, he was astonished.

And he lamented: “I called Rivaldo, told him they killed Marielle. He reacted and said ‘what do you mean? Did they kill Marielle?’. If he already knew, this reaction is unbelievable”, added Freixo.

Operation

The Federal Police launched an operation this Sunday (24) to arrest those responsible for the murder of Marielle Franco, a Rio de Janeiro councilor, and Anderson Gomes, a driver. Three arrest warrants and 12 search and seizure warrants were executed in the operation.

You three arrested, suspected of being the ones responsible for the murderare: Domingos Brazão, current advisor to the State Court of Auditors, Chiquinho Brazão, federal deputy from Rio de Janeiro, and Rivaldo Barbosa, former head of Rio’s Civil Police. The names were investigated by CNN.

The operation takes place shortly after the approval of Ronnie Lessa’s plea bargainthe person carrying out the crime, by Minister Alexandre de Morais, of the STF.
