Marielle Franco’s mother says she is surprised by the arrest of police chief Rivaldo Barbosa: ‘I trusted him’ – PontoPoder

Marinete Silva, Marielle Franco’s mother, said she was surprised by Rivaldo Barbosa’s possible involvement in her daughter’s murder. Former head of the Civil Police of Rio de Janeiro, Barbosa was arrested this Sunday (24) during a Federal Police operation.

“It is a very painful Sunday but also to do justice”, Marinete told Globonews. According to her, Marielle trusted Barbosa.

“My daughter trusted him and his work. And he said it was a matter of his honor to clarify [o assassinato]. For obvious reasons, because Marielle, in addition to trusting him, Marielle guaranteed Doctor Rivaldo’s entry into Complexo da Maré after a massacre so that he could enter and leave with his physical integrity guaranteed”, he said.

In addition to Barbosa, they were arrested Domingos Brazãocurrent advisor to the State Court of Auditors, and Chiquinho Brazão, federal deputy from Rio de Janeiro. 12 search and seizure warrants were also executed in the capital of Rio de Janeiro.

Barbosa took over as head of Rio’s police the day before the councilor’s murder. According to the g1investigations indicate that he would have guaranteed Domingos Brazão the impunity before the crime.

Councilwoman Marielle Franco and driver Anderson Gomes were murdered on the day March 14, 2018, in Rio de Janeiro.

Researchers work to define the motivation of the crime. So far, investigations indicate that the reason has to do with the territorial expansion of the militia in Rio.
