Marielle case: secrecy of murder documents removed by Alexandre de Moraes – Country

-

This Sunday (24), Minister of the Federal Supreme Court (STF) Alexandre de Moraes removed the confidentiality of documents that supported the arrest of suspects in the death of councilor Marielle Franco and driver Anderson Gomes, in 2018. The information is from g1.

Also this Sunday, the brothers Domingos Brazão and Chiquinho Brazão, identified as masterminds of the crime, and police chief Rivaldo Barbosa, suspected of hindering the investigations, were arrested.

The removal of secrecy refers to three documents: Alexandre de Moraes’ decision authorizing preventive detention; the opinion of the Attorney General’s Office (PGR) and the opinion of the Federal Police.

The STF confirmed that Domingos Brazão, Chiquinho Brazão and Rivaldo Barbosa were targets of preventive detention and that the arrests of the three were maintained in a custody hearing conducted by Moraes’ assistant judge, Airton Vieira.

The trio will be taken to Brasília, where they will be detained in a federal penitentiary. In addition to the arrests, searches and seizures, seizures of assets and removal from public duties were ordered.

The brothers Domingos and Chiquinho Brazão have long experience in elected office in Rio de Janeiro. Domingos is currently an advisor to the Rio de Janeiro Court of Auditors, but has previously held positions as a state deputy and as a councilor in the capital of Rio.

Chiquinho is in his second term as a federal deputy, but has already passed through the Legislative Assembly of Rio de Janeiro and became a colleague of Marielle Franco in the City Council. Both have the West Zone of Rio as their electoral stronghold, a region dominated by the militia.

The former head of the Civil Police of Rio de Janeiro, Rivaldo Barbosa, was sworn into this position the day before Marielle’s death by the then federal intervener in Rio, Walter Braga Netto — who would later become a minister in the Jair Bolsonaro (PL) government.

Rivaldo Barbosa met councilwoman Marielle Franco’s family, including her parents. He even hugged them and promised that he would solve the crime. “We are facing an extremely serious case that violates human dignity and democracy,” he said in March 2018.
