After a few days of sun and heat, the weather starts to change drastically this Monday. Rain, snow is coming and temperatures will drop sharply. The districts of Braga and Viana do Castelo will be under yellow warning due to snow from 9pm, according to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA)

According to IPMA, “snowfall above 600/800 meters is expected, with accumulation above 800/1,000 meters, which could be five centimeters above 800 meters”.

In a statement, IPMA also warns of “disturbance caused by snowfall with accumulation and possible formation of ice”, such as “conditioned or closed roads, damage to structures or trees, impaired local supplies”.

The yellow warning will be in effect until 6pm on Tuesday.

Temperatures also drop radically today. The maximum in Braga drops to 14ºC and the minimum to 5ºC.

In Viana do Castelo, the maximum will be 14ºC and the minimum will be 6ºC.

Warnings due to wind and sea disturbances

The districts of Braga and Viana do Castelo will also be under yellow warning tomorrow and Wednesday, due to strong winds.

According to IPMA, “strong winds from the northwest are expected, gradually turning to the southwest, with
gusts of up to 80 km/h on the coast”.

Also tomorrow, the coastal area of ​​Minho will be under orange warning due to sea unrest.

“Northwest waves of 4 to 5 meters are expected”.

The yellow warning, the least serious on a scale of three, is issued by IPMA whenever there is a risk situation for certain activities depending on the meteorological situation, while the orange warning, the second most serious, is issued whenever there is a meteorological situation of moderate to high risk.
