O Firefighter Samuel Lumayon told AFP news agency that thirteen bodies were found at the scene, adding that some injured people were transported to hospital in serious condition.
The accident occurred this afternoon on a main road in the municipality of Antipas, in the province of North Cotabato, on the island of Mindanao, the second largest in the country.
Mic Garfin, from Indonesia’s disaster management agency, told AFP that witnesses at the scene said the truck’s brakes appeared to have failed before the collision.
Garfin added that the van caught fire, possibly due to the impact.
Deadly accidents are numerous in the Philippines, where drivers often ignore driving rules and vehicles are often overloaded or poorly maintained.
