Last week, the central bank announced a further cut 0.5 percentage point in Selic, which fell to 10.75% per year — in a decision that was already widely expected by the market.
But, in the statement, the B.C. cut a crucial letter for the market. That’s because the “band” led by Roberto Campos Neto started to signal just another cut of half a percentage point in last week’s decision.
In other words, the statement that previously came with the prediction of reductions of the same magnitude, in the plural, now came in the singular. And that put a big scare in the market’s ear.
