Domingos Inácio Brazão, arrested on Sunday (24) on charges of being the mastermind behind the murder of councilor Marielle Franco, in 2018, has a history involving violence with firearms, dating back 37 years. During his 22nd birthday party, the member of the Rio de Janeiro State Court of Auditors interrupted the celebrations to chase a neighbor, who ended up dead.

The crime took place on March 8, 1987. Luiz Cláudio Xavier dos Reis confronted Brazão’s family, accusing one of the brothers of having a relationship with his wife. According to the UOL portal, which had access to documents from the investigation, the case led to a discussion at the event.
According to an excerpt from the Public Ministry’s complaint, obtained by the UOL portal: “The victims were on a motorcycle, when the defendant approached and, suddenly [de repente]fired the weapon against them, making it impossible for them to defend themselves.”
Domingos Brazão hit Luiz Cláudio Xavier dos Reis at least once in the back of the head. The other man was wounded in the cheek but survived. Initially, the politician denied any involvement in the case, but faced with recognition from witnesses, he began to claim self-defense. The trial of the case was delayed for 15 years and ended with the rejection of the conviction.
STF maintains arrest of suspects in the death of Marielle Franco
Unanimously, the First Panel of the Federal Supreme Court (STF) decided this Monday (25) to maintain the arrest of the three suspects of planning the crime and ordering the murder of councilwoman Marielle Franco and driver Anderson Gomes.
Ministers Cármen Lúcia, Cristiano Zanin, Flávio Dino and Luiz Fux followed the vote of minister Alexandre de Moraes, rapporteur of the case at the Supreme Court and who ordered the preventive detention of the three on Sunday (24).
