From today until April 1, the Republican National Guard (GNR) will intensify road inspection, patrolling and awareness-raising activities throughout the national territory as part of the Easter festivities.
In a statement, the GNR said that “Operation Easter 2024” aims to combat crime, contribute to reducing road accidents, regularize traffic and support citizens.
The GNR recalls that traditionally, the Easter season “is characterized by the reunion of families in their regions of origin and, as it corresponds to the school holiday period, a significant increase in road traffic on Portuguese roads is consequently expected”.
In the note, the Guard says that the operation aims at the safety and protection of people, and therefore goes beyond road inspection, with the effort also being aimed at festivities, surroundings, residential and commercial areas, as well as roads. most critical road traffic.
The GNR also draws attention to the misuse of cell phones and incorrect or non-use of seat belts and/or child restraint systems and the safety conditions of vehicles.
The Public Security Police (PSP) also began on Friday and until March 31st the operation “Polícia Semper Presente – Easter em Segurança 2024” with patrols and inspection actions throughout the territory, at the accesses to the main road axes.
The PSP operation aims at road safety, crime prevention and safety in the possession and use of pyrotechnic articles.
