A survey by Procon-RJ, between the 7th and 21st of March, revealed a significant disparity in the prices of Easter eggs and boxes of chocolates in different commercial establishments in the state of Rio de Janeiro. According to the municipality, the biggest variation found reached a surprising 127% – in e-commerce – in products of the same weight and brand. With this, Procon-RJ highlights the importance of consumers being attentive when shopping to ensure the best value for money.
Several establishments distributed in regions such as the North, South and West of the capital of Rio de Janeiro, as well as Baixada Fluminense, Niterói, Norte Fluminense (Campos and Macaé), the lake region and e-commerce platforms were evaluated.
According to the general average found in the regions, the one with the lowest prices is Norte Fluminense, with average prices of R$45.36. The highest costs are in the West Zone of Rio, with an overall average of R$50.27.
The results obtained reveal a considerable variation in the prices of typical products at this time of year. In some cases, the difference in values can have a significant impact on the consumer’s pocket, highlighting the importance of researching and comparing prices before making the purchase.
“We observed a large discrepancy in the prices of Easter eggs and candy boxes, which demonstrates the need for consumers to be attentive and carry out prior research to ensure the best offer”, highlights the president of Procon-RJ, Cássio Coelho.
Still according to Coelho, the research shows that, even in a context of celebration and gift exchange such as Easter, it is essential that consumers do not neglect their rights and are aware of price variations in the market.
