On Monday afternoon (25), an incident involving 11 vehicles resulted in significant congestion on Avenida Bento Gonçalves, in the east of Porto Alegre. The accident occurred around 4:30 pm at the intersection with Estrada João de Oliveira Remião and was caused by a truck with brake problems.

Witness reports indicate that the truck lost control of the brakes while traveling down João de Oliveira Remião. Initially, he collided sideways with a bus. Then, as it approached the intersection with Bento Gonçalves, the truck swerved along the sidewalk, crossed the avenue and ended up stopping on the road, hitting nine other vehicles that were stopped at the traffic lights.
Despite the severity of the collision, fortunately there were no injuries reported. The passengers on the bus involved were transferred to another vehicle and were able to continue their journey without any problems.
To deal with the situation, agents from the Public Transport and Circulation Company (EPTC) attended the scene and coordinated traffic, allowing vehicles to pass in just one lane of the avenue. However, congestion on Bento Gonçalves already exceeded five kilometers at 6pm, also affecting the flow of traffic on adjacent roads, such as Antônio de Carvalho and Avenida Ipiranga.
