During the investigations into those responsible for the murders of councilor Marielle Franco and driver Anderson Gomes, Marcelle Guimarães brought an important revelation to light. In her statement to the Special Action Group to Combat Organized Crime (Gaeco) of the Public Ministry of the State of Rio de Janeiro (MPRJ), she mentioned that delegate Brenno Carnevale, current secretary of Public Order of Rio de Janeiro, had mentioned to the disappearance of an investigation related to the death of his father, Marcos Vieira de Souza, known as Falcon — former military police officer and president of Portela, who was murdered in September 2016. The information is from the newspaper Extra.

Carnevale worked at the Capital Homicide Police Station (DHC) between 2016 and 2018, during which time he was in charge of investigating homicides involving public agents. The delegate also gave a statement to Gaeco, where he reported excessive bureaucracy and operational problems.

In one of the statements, the delegate reported that, during the period he was in DH, he did not remember “any clear homicide that resulted in the arrest or accusation against a misdemeanor linked to the Bicho game”. With regard to the investigation into the death of the former president of Portela, Carnevale mentioned that Rivaldo Barbosa frequently asked about the progress of the investigation, requesting to be informed about any news related to the case.

During the investigations, Marcelle Guimarães, Falcon’s daughter, revealed that Carnevale confided in her that Rivaldo asked her to “not touch anything and pass it directly to him”. The Federal Police report also mentions that the police chief confirmed Falcon’s daughter’s report.

“Breno would have said that when he joined the investigations of Falcon and former military police officer Geraldo Pereira, everything would have disappeared,” said Marcelle. The crime occurred in September 2016.

The Rio government released a statement stating that “the possible participation of public agents in this crime will be thoroughly investigated, and those involved will be punished with all the rigor of the law as an example.”

O Earth contacted the State Secretariat for Public Security (SESP) and is awaiting a response.
