After a decade, the Bom Jesus de Matosinhos Church in Ouro Preto will receive almost R$4 million for restoration work. The resources will come from the Federal Government through the Growth Acceleration Program (New PAC).

Roof renovation points include structures and structural reinforcement; frames; masonry; drainage; external agency; floors and ceilings; front wall and side wall (partially).

The action was signed through a term of commitment signed between the National Historical and Artistic Heritage Institute, IPHAN and Ouro Preto City Hall.

In addition to the resumption of work on the Church of Bom Jesus, other interventions are also planned for Ouro Preto, such as the restoration of the Church of São Francisco de Assis, located in front of the soapstone fair in the central region of the municipality.

During the almost ten years in which it was closed, the church, which has been listed at federal level since 1939 and which houses rare works by master Ataíde and Aleijadinho, was the subject of several demonstrations by the faithful who demanded the revitalization of the religious temple and for its reopening.
