The trial in the case of the death of Santos & Pecadores musician Rui Martins, who lost his life on May 14, 2021, when working on the roof of a factory in Tremês, in the municipality of Santarém, began on March 11th in the Santarém court. .
Due to the pandemic and no concerts, the musician had to find another professional activity. He was doing maintenance work at a marble and stone factory, when he fell 12 meters from the roof, killing him immediately.
The judges are evaluating whether there was a violation of safety rules that led to the death.
There are three defendants: the company Pye – Poweryieldenergia, based in Montemor-o-Novo, for which the musician worked, and the two managing partners.
According to Correio da Manhã, after investigating the accident, “the MP concluded that the victim did not have personal protective equipment against the risk of falling from a height, as it had never been provided to him by the company he had worked for since December 2020”. The newspaper adds, citing the indictment order that “on the day of the accident, he was working without the mandatory means of restraint to prevent his fall, such as a harness or a safety belt. Furthermore, he did not have the necessary training to safely maintain solar panels.”
Rui Martins was one of the founding musicians of the band Santos & Pecadores. Resident in Montemor-O-Novo, the musician was 40 years old, lived with Mafalda Bastos, with whom he has an 11-year-old daughter.
