O director of a school in Paris, France, resigned from his position after receiving death threats for asking students not to wear the Islamic veil, also known as hijab. The decision was taken “for security reasons”.

According to The Guardian, high school director Maurice Ravel received death threats on social media after a disagreement with a student at the end of February. It all happened when the principal asked three students to remove their headscarves at school. However, one of the students denied the request.

The student even filed a complaint against the principal, alleging that she was mistreated by the man during the incident. The young woman claims she suffered “a severe blow to the arm.”

A 26-year-old man was arrested for being responsible for the threats against the director and is expected to be tried in April.

French politicians expressed their support for the director, with the Prime Minister and former Minister of Education, Gabriel Attal, informing that he will receive the teacher, this Wednesday, in his office.

It should be noted that, in 2004, France banned school-aged children from wearing any accessory or clothing that demonstrated religious affiliation, in order to guarantee neutrality in state institutions.
