The price of chocolate is expected to reach a new level soon with the rise in cocoa, which saw the biggest increase in 40 years.

Last Monday, the 25th, the price of cocoa reached US$9,660.00 on the New York Stock Exchange, which serves as a parameter for the values ​​practiced in Brazil. This value is more than triple the price a year ago and almost 50% above the last record high in July 1977.

Despite the price spike affecting chocolate factories and the end consumer, cocoa producers are overjoyed, as this increase greatly benefits their pockets.

To the Estadão, producer Adilson José Almeida, who has a farm in Jitaúna, in the south of Bahia, said that “this is the price of dreams”. “My mother says that back in 1977, it was US$7,000 a ton. And with 200 arrobas you could buy a new truck!”, he stated.

According to forecasts from institutes and analyzes by economists, Adilson and the other 93 thousand cocoa producers in the country can rest assured, as the trend is that high prices are likely to remain for a long period.

Economist Caio Augusto, from Terraço Econômico, states that only in the next harvest there may be a reduction in price, in the second or third quarter of 2025.
