O National Union of Civil Aviation Workers (Sintac) delivered a strike notice to non-crew workers working overtime, between March 28th and July 30thto demand payment of agreed salary increases.
“Why have all workers already received the due increases, excluding land workers? We do not accept excuses combined with a lack of competence or internal capacity to implement the due agreed/negotiated increases and we demand, at a minimum, that the March salary receipt already comes with the career regularized at +6% and +10% respectively in the base salary” , Sintac pointed out in a statement.
The union accuses TAP of discrimination between “first and second-class workers” and, therefore, decided to give “pre-notice of strike to all overtime work from March 28, 2024 until July 30”.
The new company agreements had to be negotiated with all the unions representing the company’s workers, after the old ones had been terminated so that the temporary emergency agreements could come into force, which allowed the application of salary cuts, within the scope of the aid State and the restructuring plan, following the difficulties caused by the covid-19 pandemic.
At the end of February, another union, the Aviation and Airport Workers (Sitava), accused TAP of applying the new company agreements excluding ground staff, which it classified as an “irresponsible episode” that will leave marks.
Despite noting that it is not against the sailing staff or the respective union structures, Sitava said its silence is not “easy to understand” at a time when part of the workers are being “miserably discriminated against”.
The union also defended not understanding the reasons that led the company to adopt this decision, which it said, in addition to being discriminatory, constituted a humiliation.
“Why the hell is it that to apply the new AE to ground staff, gigantic and complex computer parameterizations are necessary and for seafaring staff this is not the case? On the other hand, in addition to the great IT complexity, we are now being told that everything has to be done manually and personally for each of the workers. After all, where are we left?”, he asked.
In June, Sitava began negotiations with the aim of ending salary cuts and approving a new AE.
The union also regretted that TAP had “stabbed” the workers and stressed that this “irresponsible episode” will leave deep marks.
