Four people died this Thursday in Spain following the strong waves caused by Storm Nelson, which caused damage in several parts of the country, due to rain and wind gusts of up to 90 kilometers per hour.

Near Milagre beach, in Tarragona, Catalonia, the deaths occurred after a 16-year-old minor fell into the sea and a 32-year-old adult jumped into the water to try to rescue him, at a time of strong waves.

Sources from the Civil Guard told Efe that the minor, of Moroccan origin, was part of a group of four boys between 15 and 17 years old who were playing in a stone area next to Milagre beach. According to the first indications, the young man accidentally fell into the water.

A German citizen who was passing through the area with his wife jumped into the sea to try to rescue him, but both ended up drowning, swept away by the strong waves.

The events occurred around 2:30 pm this Thursday (1:30 pm in Lisbon) and led to a large rescue device being set up by the Maritime Service of the Civil Guard, Maritime Rescue, the Generalitat Fire Department and Mossos d’ Squad.

The entire coast of Galicia is under yellow alert this Friday due to waves, which will reach four meters. Railway circulation on the Mérida-Los Rosales line between the stations of Cazalla-Constantina, in the province of Seville, and Llerena (Badajoz) was interrupted due to the landslide and was restored at 15:15 (14:15 in Lisbon).
