Egg prices fell at the end of March in practically all regions monitored by the Center for Advanced Studies in Applied Economics (Cepea) at Esalq/USP.

The pressure came from the greater supply, added to the end-of-month period (lower purchasing power of the population) and the increased availability of other proteins.

According to Cepea, in the Greater São Paulo region, a box with 30 dozen white eggs was priced at R$ 175.16 last Thursday (28/3). The average price for a box of red eggs was R$205.49.

Cepea highlights that the downward trend frustrated sector agents, who expected a higher volume of sales during Holy Week, a time traditionally marked by greater demand for eggs.

In any case, despite the recent devaluations, the price increases seen in previous weeks guaranteed an increase in the March average, compared to the previous month.
